Don't call the ogre slaying knife useless, it has +9 vs ogres!

I have taken IW into GvG before, and lo! The opponent didn't have any removal! We had 3-4 henchmen so still lost, but whatever, with 2 IW mesmers it was a slaughter

IW needs a buff, and soon. IW is the only build I can think of that is COMPLETELY disabled by a single other skill (sig of humility ftw).

IW is dissapointing as an elite, IW wouldnt suck so much if it was a non-elite skill, but i still wouldnt use it, mesmers - like necros and monks should never be in the front lines, stay in the back and kite for the love of god

Quite often in HoH the front line is scattered. IW as non elite would be insane... migrane mesmers would bring it along, after nailing on the degen they would proceed to rip the target apart, interrupting and dealing heavy hits.

It's impossible to improve the skill without a major rebalancing and rethinking of its current status. But I still love it.

Im sure iW is going to get a big buff when the expansion is released. I never saw it, but me/as apparantly rip it up. Duel wield doubles their dps (even though there is no ias its still a lot better) and the shadow arts line has quite a few decent looking cover enchants (shroud of distress as an example). There is of course, even more shutdown components in the assassin lines that will buff iW quite hard. Might even become a viable flagger -.-
Should be consistent dps (high) and lots of snares and shutdown.

iW isnt really owned by humility. Its long duration usually sidestep it. Getting rended is the ultimate slap, but i havent seen anyone use rend in a while.

Now that you mention it I do feel pretty pissed off that I forgot to try an IW dagger build during the faction weekend. That would really be the most powerful melee build in the game by far.

Afaik, daggers have the same speed as swords/axes, the only difference is the dual strike skills and double attacks that the assassin gets that make the hits seem faster. An IW mesmer will not have access to any of these.

The way I remember it is that daggers do very low damage however they strike twice each time you attack. Therefore with IW and 16 Illusion you should be doing 84 dmg per attack.

http://guildwars.ogaming.com/data/3665~Assassin.php

"Dagger Mastery: Dagger Mastery increases damage and critical hit strikes while wielding daggers. Also, the higher Dagger Mastery is in rank, the more double strikes the Assassin will receive."

The link is just where I got it from but I remember it being the same description in the game. The problem here is that, when using IW, you don't want to have to pump your weapon skill so the number of dual strikes you would land would be minimal unless you want to sacrifice all those attribute points.
